This colorful lady is not shouting impending doom like her namesake in the famous children's story but is simply saying "look at me" in all my multicolored glory!

There was considerable discussion as to whether she/he is a hen or rooster but I am the artist and I went with hen!

Several months ago my plein air group went to Hunter Farms here in Charlotte. It is still a very limited working farm but mainly school groups come on field trips to see the goats, chickens, roosters, donkeys and other animals in the barns.  This rotund rooster was very intent on eating and would not pose for me, much to my chagrin.  From the size of him, he doesn't miss many chances to eat!
